After just the right amount of conditioning time in the brewery, the latest offering from Cosmic Pint Glass hits the shelves packed with Slovenian hops and English malts, delivering a crisp and zesty flavour which lasts through to the finish.
On this fifth round, guest brewers are Slovenian duo Ichisan & Nakova, a pair of Scando-disco obsessives who've spent the last decade perfecting their own groovesome take on those spaced out grooves. "Princesa" locks us into a hypno-trance-dance right from the off, utilising a motorik rhythm and live bassline to get the heads down and shoulders rolling. This stripped back opening soon gives way to lush and expansive melody as the duo introduce blossoming arpeggios and elegant piano offering the kind of danceable beauty last heard when Lindstrom took us to the Metro or Still Going were still going strong. "Mrk" heads deeper into the subterranean rave cave, employing a stripped back machine rhythm and solid kick to tunnel through terra firma. Synth stabs ride a squidgy bassline, setting your hips a-swaying before subtle piano and bright keys offer a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Filters open and we're bathed in light, dancing in a crystal cavern to the sound of cascading synths, laser bleeps and cosmic fx. Eyes closed and hands aloft, there are serious shapes to be thrown, and once the bronzed Balearic guitar makes an entrance you'll see all the colours of the rainbow at once.
The B1 sees Ruf Dug make his return to the Cosmic Pint Glass, swapping "Princesa"'s Scandolearic flavours for the sweet and strong island magic of a Dark & Stormy. Replacing the motorik rhythm with a lilting groove of his own creation, Ruffy rearranges the peaking pianos and adds subtropical marimba and Compass Point keys delivering a sweltering dancefloor jam perfect for the summer season. London producer Jonathan Krisp makes his CPG debut on the B2, offering a mind altering, mystic refix of "Mrk". Dizzying layered chords start the cogs turning, while wood blocks, spring reverb and chimes all help build the atmosphere. As the track hits a plateau Krisp makes like a medievil Terje, laying down hair raising church organ to transform the track into a non-stop disco dance party. Down in one!
